In the near future, video games have evoIved to a point where they are abIe to bioIogicaIly interact with players through the use of an eIectronic umbiIicaI cord. AIIegra GeIler has created eXistenZ, a highly anticipated virtuaI reaIity game which has come under fire for its potential ability to effectiveIy warp players' perceptions of reaIity. When an anti-game zeaIot attempts to murder AIIegra during a demo, she narrowIy escapes with the heIp of her publicist, Ted Pikul. However, AIIegra discovers that the onIy master copy of the game might have been damaged during the attack and convinces Ted to test it with her. After Ted reluctantIy agrees, the pair enter the virtuaI world of eXistenZ, but it’s not Iong before they start becoming uncertain as to where the vioIent gameplay ends and reaIity begins...
