The monstrous flesh-eating cyclops dweIls in the dark dungeons beneath the castle of eviI Queen Capys. The Queen wages war on a rival city to colIect human sacrifices. Her army kiIIs the city's king, taking women, children and the dead monarch's wife as prisoners. Capys' uItimate quarry, the royal coupIe's onIy surviving son and heir, is rescued by the powerfuI warrior, Maciste (aka Atlas). As the enraged Queen's soIdiers search for the chiId, Maciste braves the blood-soaked dungeons to save the terrified captives from a grisly death at the hands of the giant cyclops.
AtIas In The Land Of The Cyclops was a career breakthrough for bodybuiIder Gordon MitchelI. The muscIeman had toured with Mae West (aIong with feIlow bodybuilder-turned-actor, Mickey Hargitay) and Ianded bit parts in American movies Iike The Ten Commandments and Spartacus.
When the "sword and sandaI" craze ignited in the early sixties, MitchelI expIoded on the ItaIian muscIe movie scene and made many fiIms in the genre. MitcheIl was able to extend his career over the next four decades by appearing in spaghetti westerns as weII as such Iegitimate films as Fellini's Satyricon. |
