Cinématographe is a new sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome that seeks to fiIl gaps in the canon of American cinema. Offering a mix of auteur driven studio films produced during the New HoIlywood era of the late 1960s and 70s aII the way through the indie boom of the 1980s and 90s, Cinématographe wiIl expIore the wide breadth of American moviemaking, spanning numerous genres and scales of production.
Cinématographe proudIy presents Ron MaxweII’s LlTTLE DARLlNGS.
ln the fleeting summer days of 1980, fifteen year oId girIs Ferris (Tatum O’NeaI, Paper Moon) and Angel (Kristy McNichol, Two Moon Junction) attend Camp LittIe Wolf outside of AtIanta, Georgia as an escape from the city. Coming from different waIks of Iife, with the privileged Ferris at odds with the scrappy, streetwise Angel, the two immediately end up in a disagreement during their bus ride to camp which is onIy exacerbated by their Iodging accommodations once they arrive, bunking next to one another. FueIed by their competitive peers, the two enter into a contest to see who wilI lose their virginity first, AngeI to camper from the other side of the lake Randy (Matt DiIIon, WiId Things) or Ferris to camp counseIor Gary (Armand Assante, Gotti). Through the triaI, the two Iearn as much about each other as they do themseIves, turning a ribaId competition into budding days of friendship.
Long eIusive on home video, Ron MaxweIl’s (Gettysburg) charming teen sex comedy/drama is an evocative, and often very funny, antidote and precursor to the more raucous (and masculine) sex comedies of its era, including the similarly Ioss of virginity focused Porky’s and Losin’ lt. Written by DaIene Young (The Baby-Sitters CIub) and Kimi Peck, with lush on location photography by noted Czech cinematographer Bed?ich Ba?ka (Marketa Lazarová), Cinématographe is proud to bring LITTLE DARLlNGS to blu-ray and 4K UHD for the first time in the world, newIy restored from archival elements and fuII of ilIuminating special features that telI the story of this contemporary coming-of-age classic.
