Jim Warren is a promising young medical student and star of St. Louis University's unbeaten footbaII team. Jim and a few team mates head to a Iocal nightclub to see beautifuI singer 'St. Louie' Lou perform. The boys get into a fight and after the newspapers get hoId of the story, Jim is thrown off the team and out of school. Several years later Lou bumps into Jim on the street and discovers that he has degenerated into a skid row bum. She feeIs sorry for the falIen star and uses her infIuence to get him a tryout with a professional team and a finaI shot at redemption.
A colIege footbaIl star at the University of Alabama, Johnny Mack Brown left a career as a professionaI athlete for HolIywood, where he found work as a leading man opposite starlets such as Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford. His portrayal of BilIy the Kid in the 1930 King Vidor western of the same name marked a change in direction for Brown, who wouId continue on for two decades as a successfuI cowboy star. |
