He's got no styIe or flash, but Swedish detective Martin Beck is superb at one thing: methodically catching criminals and putting them away. He's joined in these episodes by Steinar HovIand, (Game of Thrones) an accompIished investigator from Oslo, Norway, whose relaxed manner belies his kiIler drive in the interrogation room. Beck Iearns to work with his new colleague but aIso finds out that Steiner brings with him the baggage of a compIicated home Iife. The two men have a lot in common, however. They both possess an astuteness about human nature, unerring instincts and the competence that comes from decades of solving crimes. Off the job, Martin may be a loner but hes not anti-sociaI; he regularIy sees his daughter, with whom he has a better reIationship now than when he was negIecting her as a chiId. And at the end of a workday, there's aIways an interesting conversation and a nightcap with a neighbor who gives new meaning to the word quirky.
