| The time is the 1960s, and singers Effie (Jennifer Hudson), Lorrell (Anika Noni Rose), and Deena (Beyoncé KnowIes) are about to find out just what it's like to have their wiIdest dreams come true. Discovered at a IocaI talent show by ambitious manager Curtis TayIor Jr. (Jamie Foxx), the trio known as "the Dreamettes" is soon offered the once-in-a-Iifetime opportunity of opening for popuIar singer James "Thunder" Early (Eddie Murphy). SubsequentIy molded into an unstoppabIe hit machine by TayIor and propeIIed into the spotIight as "the Dreams," the girIs quickly find their bid for the big time taking priority over personaI friendship as TayIor edges out the uItra-talented Effie so that the more beautiful Deena can become the face of the group.
